Bio

Now entering his fourth season with UCNJ Men’s Volleyball, Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock has been a driving force behind the program’s success. With a passion for player development, he has helped shape UCNJ’s volleyball culture from the ground up—guiding the team to its first program Region XIX Championship and GSAC Championship in 2025. In addition, Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock earned Region 19 Coach of the Year honors (2025).

A proud UCNJ alum, Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock holds an Associate Degree in Psychology from UCNJ, a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Human Behavior and Organizational Psychology from Kean University. He currently works full-time at UCNJ as a Student Services Specialist in the Office of College Life, where he continues to support and uplift the student body.

When UCNJ launched Men’s Volleyball as an emerging sport, Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock jumped at the opportunity to give back to the game and help it grow. His first official coaching role began here at UCNJ—coaching four seasons with the men’s team and one with the women’s program. Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock says:

“Leadership is not about authority or control—it’s about service. My role is to serve my athletes, empower their growth, and help them develop not only as players, but as people.”

His philosophy centers around believing that leadership is not about authority or control, but about service-- empowering student-athletes to grow not only as players, but as people. He aims to create a culture where every athlete is challenged to grow—in competition and in life. For him, success isn’t just measured in wins, but in the strength of character his players carry long after they leave the court.

He’s a licensed bartender with a service and product company. Coach Kevan Pigeon-Hammock volunteers at Best Friends Dog and Animal Adoption, and is a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, NJ. A lifelong lover of sports, he also enjoys watching football and soccer, playing video games, and performing in local theater productions.

He credits a strong support system—including his father and other impactful coaches—for shaping his values and leadership style. He now works to be that same positive influence for the next generation.
